Categorize Plus no Longer Appears Inside Outlook 2003

Complete each step below until Categorize Plus loads successfully.

1.  Verify that Outlook is not displaying the "Today" screen.

By design, the Categorize Plus toolbar will not load whenever Outlook displays the "Today" screen.  Therefore, if the "Today" screen is currently displayed, then switch to a folder and the Categorize Plus toolbar should load automatically.

2.  Make sure the add-in loads correctly.

  1. Go to Outlook Menu -> Tools -> Options.
  2. In the "Options" dialog box, click on the "Other" tab then click the "Advanced options..." button.
  3. In the "Advanced" options dialog box, click on the "COM Add-ins" button for the "COM add-ins" dialog box to appear.

  4. Find the add-in in the "COM add-ins" list:
  5. If it is unchecked, check it and close the "COM Add-ins" dialog.
  6. If it is checked, uncheck it and close the dialog. Then open the dialog again and check the add-in item. The toolbar should appear.

3.  Make sure the add-in isn't disabled.

  1. Go to the Outlook Menu -> Help -> About -> Disabled Items.
  2. If the add-in is in the list, select the add-in and click the "Enable" button, then repeat the instructions from step 1 above.

4.  Repair the installation.

Windows Vista
  1. From the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel".
  2. In Classic View, double-click "Programs and Features".  If using the Control Panel Home view, under "Programs", click "Uninstall a program".
  3. Select Categorize Plus from the program list and then right-click the program and select "Repair".
Windows XP
  1. From the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel".
  2. Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon.
  3. Select Categorize Plus from the program list and then click "Repair".

5.  Uninstall and then re-install Categorize Plus.

  1. Uninstall Categorize Plus.
    This will not remove your menu files or settings unless you specifically request to do so.  The only way to request to have these files removed is to select the “Uninstall” button from the Categorize Plus About dialog and then select “Yes” when prompted to remove these files.  Therefore, unless you specifically request to have these files removed, then your settings will survive an un-install and re-install.

  2. Reboot your computer.
    This may be required to unlock any windows files that may be currently locked. This is a common reason why Categorize Plus will not load at startup.

  3. Download the latest version of Categorize Plus from the VeranoSoft website.

  4. Re-install Categorize Plus.
    Be sure that Outlook is not running when you do the install.
